TOLN Baja and San Diego Plants – Google Doc

Tree of Life Native Plant Nursery – Plantas de San Diego, Baja California y el Desierto Sonora

We recently shared a list created by Mike Evans about the plants we carry that are native to San Diego, Baja California and the Sonoran Desert.

If you are new to the terms in this list as well as Google Docs, we wanted to share a few tips.

Google Spreadsheets works like a spreadsheet you might use in Microsoft Excel, this particular Doc will not be editable by you, but you are able to download the document into several formats.  You do not need a google account or password to access this document.

To see what you will see in your web browser, please see the following image (click to enlarge):

A. File Option, there are only a few options available, one of them is: “Download As”
B. “Download As” Options opened
C. Another Sheet of the Worksheet exists, sorted by Common Name for you.

There are only two Regions on this list, 1 – San Diego & Northern Baja and 2 – Desert.
The “Type” field will be most useful for planning a landscape as they are useful plant design categories: A. Tree, B. Shrubs, C. Sub-Shrubs (and flowers), D. Accents and E. Grass, Rush, “Meadow”

Our list of San Diego, Baja and Sonoran Desert Plant list is by NO MEANS a comprehensive list of what is native to San Diego, Baja and Sonoran Deserts – rather it is a list of what we grow or have access to in the nursery for propagation, that also is native to those regions.

This list is designed to help you generate a generally interesting garden design based on the garden theme of either San Diego/Baja or Sonoran Desert, or both!  It is mostly to get you familiar with the plants that occur in these special regions and is meant to be a starting point for your ideas for your landscape.  Much more information could be included, like sun/shade requirements, water, etc.  For now, this is a quick and dirty list, soon to be incorporated into our online catalog – which does have all the information such as: sun/shade, water, pruning, etc.

Fun fact: Botanic Name is the scientific names of the plants… a few of these may have actually changed in the past year, but for the sake of sanity, we went with fairly recent plant names (this will help those of you that have already memorized a lot of plant names and may not yet be familiar with all of Jepsons’ new name changes.  We love you Jepson project!)
