Desert Bonsai Bowl
Observe and learn how to make a “desert bonsai” using a planter bowl or shallow pot in the bonsai tradition. We will match the pot to desert plant species, rocks, pebbles and sand top dress, dry branches or burls and other natural features. The finished pot will exemplify a miniature desert scene that will grow and thrive in the pot for many years to come.
Mike Evans likes the desert. He lives on the coast, and cannot often drop everything and head out there on a whim. However, by creating cool little potted landscapes, he can go in his mind. His inspiration for these little natural scenes comes from the traditional Japanese artform called of “bonsai.”

As a special promotion for Mike’s demonstration, we’ll be offering 10% off on all pottery and soil throughout the day to help you get started on your own landscape in miniature!

June 10 – 11:30AM-2PM
Frogs are your Friends: Ponds and Puddles in the Garden
One of the key components of a habitat garden is water. Be it a bird bath, a fountain, a constructed “seep” with water and mud for butterflies, or a small pond, you will provide a water source for the birds and the bees, as well as a myriad of creatures including fish (obviously), and amphibians (frogs, toads, salamanders, and newts), an even reptiles and mammals. We all need water.

Come learn from one of our most popular workshop speakers, Dr. Leon Baginski, the benefits of having living water in your garden. Leon will discuss how to build and keep a pond, including care and maintenance of its resident flora and fauna. He has spoken here many times about beneficial pollinators and now you can hear about our moisture loving friends who will also make your place their home if you give the right environment.

June 24  –  11:30am-2:00pm
Customer Appreciation Day and BBQ
Yes Virginia there is a free lunch.

We will be cookin’ up our famous carne asada tacos. The fare is fairly spare (spartan, but austere), though delicious… tacos and garnishes, your basic taco stand taco, so… dear loyal friends, feel free to bring, as some of you have done in years past, a side dish to put on the side dish table which will liven things up a bit.

We will have reduced hours on Saturdays in summer, July through September. Click here to see our summer hours.
