December 1
Ceanothus and Manzanita: California’s Evergreen Winter Beauties

Come learn about our winter blooming natives: Ceanothus, also known as California Wild Lilac; and, Arctostaphylos, also known as Manzanita! These plants offer the native gardener steady year round foliage, and in the winter months, these two plant species SHINE. Ceanothus comes with flowers ranging from bright blue to white, and Manzanitas have pink or white flowers and a signature stunning red bark that is sure to please year round. Both are pleasing to many pollinators including hummingbirds and butterflies. These two species do best planted in the cool season – so come learn about the varieties we have available and get them planted in your garden!!

Wreath Workshop – Workshops are full*
An annual tradition here at Tree of Life Nursery, come celebrate the holiday season with your own handmade wreath fashioned out of California native plant material! Craftswoman Hilda Evans will instruct two workshops on December 8th and you are invited to participate in the fun. *To be added to the waitlist click here.

Aromatherapy in the California Garden
For centuries, aromatherapy has been used to enhance health and well-being. Modern research recognizes the benefits of aromatherapy for stress reduction, sleep and mood management, improved memory and cognition, as well as easing discomforts associated with anxiety and chronic pain.

Join Certified Yoga Therapist and California Native Plants Education and Outreach Specialist, Melissa Adylia Calasanz C-IAYT, as she shares her approach to sustainable aromatherapy, and how she uses the healing properties of California Native Plants, cultivated locally at Tree of Life Nursery.

 

December 22
Winter Solstice  –  Tree Planting  –  Holiday Sale
Planting a tree is always a sort of ceremony, honoring the earth, the tree, the immediate area, and all the other plants and animals nearby, plus leaving something of great value  to future generations. Join us to celebrate the Winter Solstice, Saturday 12/22/19 as we plant a new tree in a key location here at the nursery. We’ll have coffee, hot coco and great company. You will have done your part by throwing a couple shovelfuls of soil back into the planting hole. Looking forward to seeing you.

See what is blooming at Tree of Life this winter! We’ll lead a tour of our gardens with a focus on winter bloomers and how you can create seasonal interest in your garden and providing year round habitat pollinators, birds, and more!
