Replace Your Lawn!

Start your landscape makeover by getting rid of that expensive water-guzzling, care-intensive lawn, to make way for a gorgeous native landscape!  We are presenting our Replace Your Lawn (RYL) workshop series in a four part installment about the basics of converting your lawn into a beautiful, carefree, sustainable habitat.

These workshops will be held SATURDAYS at 9:30, beginning March 30, 2013.  This RYL series will include some next steps and seasonal advice for those who have already begun the transition to a Native Plant Garden.

All of these workshops are FREE of charge and each session lasts about an hour, (depending on questions!).  Hopefully you will be able to attend each of the sessions at least once.  No reservations are required.

Replace Your Lawn I: Kill the Grass

Step one – get rid of it!  This may be more involved than you would expect and the methods to get rid of a lawn are quite varied.  Avoid unnecessary labor and learn several successful methods for lawn removal, depending on you turf type, budget, and timeline. First in our popular four-part series.

How to Map & Measure for your New Garden

Designer in Residence, Jeremy Sison of Artemisia Landscape Architecture will teach you some of the fundamental tools needed to get your native plant project going – how to map and measure your space so that you can optimally plan your garden. Jeremy will demonstrate step-by-step how to start your landscape plan and also share his extensive native plant planning knowledge with you. Replace Your Lawn IV: Seasonal Highlights and Care in the Native Garden

Great for getting started or even taking your native garden to the next level, Mike Swingholm of the Environmental Nature Center will share season specific gardening tasks you should be doing in your native garden (ie which plants to plant, which plants to prune, etc.).  He will also highlight plants according to bloom season to help you plan for flowers in the next 3, 6 and even 9 months.  The easiest way to figure out year-round color in your garden!
