Seri people at Tree of LifeNovember 5, 2016
9am – 4pm –
Seri People at Tree of Life Nursery
Tree of Life Nursery is honored to host a group of artisans from the indigenous Seri (Comcáac) tribe. Hailing from the arid coast of Sonora, Mexico, the Seri are famous for their amazing basketry, beautiful necklaces of shell, bead and bone, and elegant ironwood carvings. This special event will begin with a talk on Seri culture and history, with a traditional Seri dance and ceremonial songs later in the day. These Seri artisans will have their finest items available for sale throughout the day, and in the spirit of “fair trade,” 100 percent of the sale proceeds will stay with the artisans.

10:30 AM – Talk on Seri history and culture
1:30 PM – Traditional Seri basket dance

9:30 AM – Coast to Cactus: The Canyoneer Trail Guide to San Diego Outdoors

Learn how Coast to Cactus: The Canyoneer Trail Guide to San Diego Outdoors is actually a “Virtual Canyoneer” – a pocket naturalist that will tell you what you are seeing on the trail and what to look for in each of the habitats that might be encountered on any one trail. It is a tool to learn about San Diego County, which is one of 35 places in the world considered a biodiversity hotspot. The book teaches a greater appreciation and understanding of San Diego outdoors. Everything one needs is included: full hike descriptions, maps, and habitat and species information. Join us for this exciting talk to get you ready to hike and explore the San Diego outdoors!
