The Expert Workshop Series is coming to Tree of Life this November!
Tree of Life Nursery will be bringing experts from around Southern California to speak on a variety of native plant topics.
All workshops begin at 9:30 AM unless otherwise noted.
Holiday Fair on November 7 – 10 am-3 pm
Tree of Life Nursery vendors will bring special displays of their products to sell in our store. Join us to shop for unique holiday items directly from the craftspeople we work with who already stock our store with incredible items! Come enjoy this festive day and start your holiday shopping in a beautiful and relaxing setting. In the holiday spirit, we will be serving light refreshments.

November 14 – Butterfly Gardening (AM) and Drawing Nature Workshop (PM)
9:30 AM -Butterfly Gardening
Join Dr. Leon Baginski as he shares the joys of habitat gardening. Native butterflies and moths are facing dwindling numbers due to habitat loss and degradation. Come learn how to make your garden a beautiful and welcoming environment for our native butterflies and moths. Dr. Leon will go over the native host and nectar plants that attract and support them so your garden can be a sanctuary for you and these beautiful beneficials.
1:00 PM – How to Draw Nature Workshop
Join Author, Naturalist and Artist Sama Wareh for a 2 hour workshop based off of her award winning book “How to Draw 60 Native CA Plants and Animals: A Field Guide”. Enjoy Turkish Coffee while you unleash the creativity within you. Learn how to sharpen your observation skills in order to capture nature’s beauty with your preferred artistic medium. Learn how to break seemingly complicated drawings into shapes and lines. Bring a Sketchbook and come prepared to have some fun!
Sama Wareh has sold over a thousand books and has held hundreds of art and science workshops throughout Orange County. In 2013, Wareh was awarded OC Register’s OC Metro’s 40 under 40.

November 21 – Native Bees of California
With 20,000 known species worldwide, bees are perhaps the most important pollinators in the world. There is a wide range of diversity in California’s native bee species, from rice-sized sweat bees, all the way up to thumb-sized carpenter bees. Author Bob Allen (BugBob) will discuss local native bees and how to create bee-friendly habitat in your yard.
November 28 – Tour of Nursery Gardens
Join the experts at Tree of Life Nursery and get inspired for your landscape project by seeing beautiful native plants in our nursery gardens. We will lead a tour of the nursery gardens and provide insightful discussion about how to get started with native gardening. On the tour you will be inspired by our mature native plantings, some newer plantings and our extensive knowledge and abundant enthusiasm.
December 5 – “How to Keep ’em Alive”
You chose your native plants, decided how to arrange them, and planted them properly. Now that your garden is planted you need to know how to get it off to a good start! This presentation covers proper care for newly planted California natives. You will learn what the establishment period is, and how to care for your young plants as they make the transition from nursery conditions to your garden. Topics included are: pruning, watering, and general care. There will be time for questions and discussion.
Barbara Eisenstein is a California native plant gardener, horticulturist, writer and blogger. Former garden expert for the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden hotline, Barbara is currently a Research Associate at Rancho and a board member of the San Gabriel Mountains Chapter of CNPS.
