January Teaser…!

Winter Solstice

This is perhaps one of the most festive times of year and its also a great time to plant native plants.  We hope you’ll join us at our workshops in the New Year.  For now, we’re open to the public this Saturday before Christmas and next Saturday before New Years’.  We’re also open Wed through Friday in both the wholesale and retail offices next week, (Dec 26-28) and the following week, (Jan 2-4).  See you out here!

Doug Westfall: Ranchos of Orange County, Guide to San Juan Capistrano, & Changes in Landscape
Publisher, author and educator Doug Westfall of Paragon Books will lecture about the early history of Orange County and San Juan Capistrano.

January 19Designers in Residence will start up again for the year, and the beginning of a new “Replace Your Lawn with Native Plants” Workshop Series (More details TBA)!

Planting for Color: Ceanothus – Selecting, Caring For and Enjoying Ceanothus

Ceanothus Louis EdmundsMost Ceanothus, common name, “California Wild Lilac”, tend to bloom in the winter and spring months, February, March and April.  We’ll be talking about them this December, so you can get your Ceanothus planted in time to enjoy the bloom season!  We will go over the details of this fascinating California original, many of which display blue flowers, (some are white).  Blue is one of the rarest colors in nature, and that we have an array of native blue flowers to choose from is yet one more thinYellow native containerg that makes California natives, and in particular Ceanothus, so awesome!

DIY: Create a Native Plant Container

‘Tis the season for gift giving and decorating.  Do you enjoy native plants and keep trying to get your friends to notice?  Give them a beautiful native plant container this holiday season!  You won’t want to miss this talk about putting together native containers, care and maintenance tips for your planted mini-ecosystem and the opportunity to create a planted native container right on site.  With the purchase of your container and plants, we will provide potting soil and assistance with assembling your new masterpiece.

Cost and details: Free to attend talk — Purchase of materials: containers and plants a la carte.
No reservation necessary.

Wreath-Making with Native Plants Workshop

‘Tis the season for a yearly tradition at Tree of Life Nursery. Come make a Christmas wreath using 100% native plant material.  Vitis girdiana, (Native California Grape), wreath bases are provided as well as fresh cut native plant material for your use.  Craftswoman Hilda Evans will provide instruction and help you create a native wreath for you to take home.  This event often sells out without room for walk-ins.  Registration information and more details here.
