9:30 AM -Soils Class: Get the dirt on soil!

Dirt is what gets under your fingernails, soil is what supports your plants’ growth. Come learn the basics of soil structure, chemistry, biology, and microbiology with Bob Allen and Tree of Life owner Mike Evans. Don’t let the idea of soil “science” intimidate you; the class will be basic and practical. By knowing what kind of soil you have, you can make good choices on what to plant. Knowing your soil is essential to good garden maintenance, especially water management and plant nutrition. We will provide handouts and many take-home references. Please bring some of your soil in a jar (approx. quart size) about two thirds full. Take your sample from about 6-12″ below the surface in a typical area where your plants are growing. We will analyze each sample’s structure and texture. Bring more than one sample if you have different soils throughout your yard or areas of special concern.
